The Beauty of Flowers in Hanoi Vietnam

Hanoi is charming, with several interesting towns named after the flowers a long time ago and the natural landscapes filled with the pink water lily.

The towns with the names of flowers in Hanoi

The oldest one is Kim Lien Town, of which “Kim Lien” means the yellow lotus, named after the antique village in Dong Da District. According to the history, since King Ly Thai To moved the capital from Hoa Lu to Thanh Long in 1010, the area in the south of the capital had a village called “Dong Lam.” Then, in the year of 1961, under the reign of King Le Than Tong, that village was renamed to “Kim Hoa” (meaning the Yellow Flower). Then, King Thieu Tri changed the name to “Kim Lien” (the Yellow Lotus) which is used until now.

The other town with the lotus name is “Lien Tri” which means the Lotus Pond. In the past, this village was originally named “Lien Thuy,” then changed to “Lien Duong.” After all, it is called “Lien Tri” named after the local pagoda. In Ha Dong District, opposite the Hanoi University of Architecture, there is an alley system with the authentic Vietnamese name as “Ao Sen” (the Lotus Pond).

Hanoi also has several ancient villages named after the gorgeous flowers such as “Bach Mai” (the White Apricot Flower) and “Hoang Mai” (the Yellow Apricot Flower). In the recent years, the capital city names some new roads along the Ho Tay (West Lake), namely Yen Hoa Town (in 2012) and Tu Hoa Town (in 2013), of which “Hoa” means “flower.” Each of the towns named after the flowers is highlighted with the lovely houses, and some are even decorated with the green and flowery walls.

In the beginning days of September, the streams of Yen Spring are not covered by boats and boats. Rather, it is bunches of water lily that beautify the natural sceneries. The pink color of the flowers creates the fairylike landscapes.

The best time to see the water lily in Yen Spring on Perfume Pagoda is around September, October, and November when the pink dominates the whole picturesque spring. There you join the quiet and pure world which is hard to find in the city atmosphere. That is the reason why people come to Yen Spring to seek peace right in the middle of Hanoi Capital. Not only does this place have a pagoda, mountain, and spring but it also owns the pink water lily. Please note that the water lily blossoms best in the early morning when the mist covers the mountainous scenery of the Perfume Pagoda. Therefore, if you love viewing the flowers and taking photos of them, please arrive as early as possible (around 7:00 – 9:00) to capture the right moments when it’s cool and the flowers blossom widely.
