Yangon is the largest city in Myanmar, and one of the most popular destinations for international tourists.

Foreign nationals traveling to Yangon need to meet Myanmar’s entry conditions, this may include applying for a visa.

Yangon visa: Is It Necessary?

Most foreigners need a visa to visit Yangon. The Yangon visa requirements are the same as those for the rest of Myanmar visa requirements.

Over 100 nationalities can get a visa for Yangon online. Tourists who wish to see Yangon can fill out the online application form to request a Burma visa.

The eVisa system is 100% online. Applicants do not need to visit an embassy or visa application center at any point.

Tourist and business eVisa for visiting Yangon

There are 2 different types of eVisas for Yangon: tourist and business.

Tourist visas are for vacations and sightseeing. The Myanmar tourist visa is valid for stays of up to 28 days.

The Myanmar business visa is valid for stays of up to 70 days.

You must meet all the requirements for the type of visa you are applying for.

Requirements to Apply for a Myanmar Visa for Yangon

Just a few items are required to apply for a visa for Yangon online:
  • Passport from an eligible country
  • Recent passport-style photograph
  • Current email address
  • Debit or credit card
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Myanmar.

How long does it take to get a visa for Yangon?

Visa processing is also times quick. Applicants will receive their Yangon eVisa via email within 4 business days. This allows for flexible travel plans.

Applicants should allow extra time in case of any unexpected delays.

Is there a visa on arrival at Yangon airport?

A limited number of foreign citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at Yangon airport. Yangon International airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, and Mandalay International Airport are currently the only Myanmar entry points where this is possible.

All eligible travelers are advised to apply for a visa online in advance.

Passengers with an eVisa can avoid delays at the airport and can travel with greater peace of mind. Visitors who opt for a visa on arrival must have all the relevant documentation and the application fee in full in cash.

How to Get to Yangon From Other Countries

International tourists can fly to Yangon International Airport (YIA). The Myanmar eVisa is valid at this port of entry.

Yangon airport is around 11 miles from the city center, it can be reached by car in 15 minutes. There is also a convenient shuttle bus.

Reaching Yangon from other cities in Myanmar

The following forms of transportation can be used to reach Yangon from other cities in Myanmar:
  • Domestic flight
  • Bus
  • Train
  • Taxi or car hire
Passengers arriving at Myanmar’s second biggest airport, Mandalay, can take an internal flight to Yangon which takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes.
